Built in 1856 and restored by Barry and Maureen Wright, they have been operating as self contained bed and breakfast accommodation since 1994. The emphasis is on comfort and convenience. Peacocks Chimney Stack

Peacock’s Chimney was created to provide an updraught to the boilers at Peacocks Engine House. The reopening of the open cut mine in the early 1970s necessitated the destruction of Peacocks Chimney so, to the credit of many dedicated and hardworking members of the National Trust, the chimney was rebuilt in 1972 at its present location. Johnny Green sits atop the relocated chimney. Johnny Green has been the mascot of the miners since 1852 and is dedicated as a memorial to the Cousin Jacks and their fellow miners at the Burra Mine. Police Lockup And Stables

Built in 1847, pre-dating Redruth Gaol, this fine complex consists of police station, stables, lockup and police residence. The Burra Police Lockup was built because of the influx of population and the number of hotels in the town during Burra's mining boom. The cobblestone courtyard reputedly faces towards London. In 1851, the police force in Burra comprised six men. Entrance to the Police Lockup and Stables is included in the Burra Heritage Passport available from the Burra Visitor Information Centre, 2 Market Square, Burra. Morphetts Enginehouse Museum

At Morphetts Enginehouse Museum visitors will see the only known reconstructed Cornish enginehouse in the world. A guide will explain the workings of the engine and pump system used to de-water the mine. Visitors are encouraged to examine the three-storey building and information displayed. Outside visitors may walk through an underground adit and view the mineshaft. Original pumping equipment along with the remains of several mine buildings are on display. An unforgettable experience. Guided tours are available daily between 10am and 12:30pm either individually or free with the purchase of a Burra Heritage Passport. Redruth Gaol

1856 gaol, used in the South Australian Film Corporation film, "Breaker Morant". The gaol was closed in 1894 and later used as a girls’ reformatory. It features displays depicting the life and living conditions of prisoners and reformatory inmates. Entrance to the Redruth Gaol is included in the Burra Heritage Passport, available from the Burra Visitor Information Centre, 2 Market Square, Burra. Discover and explore the historic township of Burra with the Burra Heritage Passport. The passport gives you entry to the Burra Mine including dressing tower and lookout, police lockup and stables, Redruth Gaol, Hampton, powder magazine, market square museum, brewery cellars, miners' dugouts and smelts paddock. The Passport also includes free entry to Burra's museums during opening times. You'll have a step-by-step guidebook helping you to discover the heritage trail at your leisure. The 11 kilometre heritage trail has been clearly marked out around the town, with 49 sites along its route. Group and educational guided and unguided tours, including Burra Heritage Passport, can be arranged, full details and costs on application. North-east of Redruth Gaol, Burra SA 5417
This was an English style township, a private township named after an assayer at the Smelting Works, Edward Hampton. It contained 30 simple miners' cottages and a Bible Christian Chapel. Much of the stone quarried there was used in many of Burra's fine old buildings. The township was abandoned finally in 1960. Hampton is situated just north-east of the Redruth Gaol, on a hill, overlooking the mine area and its other townships. Accessed via the Burra Heritage Passport. Entrance to Hampton is included in the Burra Heritage Passport available from the Burra Visitor Information Centre, 2 Market Square, Burra. Miners Dugouts

In 1851, up to 2,000 miners and their families lived in these dugouts along the riverbed. Floods drove many people out into the homes built by the mining companies. Wages were low, but some miners continued to live in poor conditions with the constant threat of floods and disease, rather than pay rent. By 1860, the dugouts were virtually deserted. Entrance to the Miners’ Dugouts is included in the Burra Heritage Passport, available from the Burra Visitor Information Centre, 2 Market Square, Burra (open seven days per week and public holidays 9am to 5pm, closed Christmas Day).
