Imagine Cruises Logo and Images

Imagine Cruises

5104 Nelson Bay Road, Nelson Bay NSW 2315

We often see Humpback Whales performing “Spy Hops”. Spy hopping is when the whale rises in a vertical movement straight up out of the water head first.

Humpback whales spy hop to get a better view of where they are or to look at the people on a whale watching vessel. Whale Watch AustraliaThey really do like to look at us as much as we like to look at them. A spy hop right in front of Imagine is a wonderful experience.

It is a special moment that you get to look at a Humpback Whale while it is looking at you.Humpback whales have very good vision so most spy hops don’t bring the whales eye out of the water but they are looking at you from underneath the water. In clear water the whales body is also visible underneath the water so the whale’s head will slowly rise above the water, sometimes to a great height, it will hold that position and then slowly sink back below the water.

The whale is able to hold it’s position above the water not by swimming but by using it’s natural buoyancy and positioning it’s pectoral fins. When this happens close to Imagine it is very impressive, you are looking at one of the world’s largest creatures while it is looking at you saying Hello!

Byron Bay Whale Watching

9 Marvell Street, Byron Bay NSW 2481

Come and join us and experience one of the worlds most incredible animal migrations.  Whale Watching Byron Bay will take you right up to the humpback whales with the amazing Byron Bay landscape as a backdrop.

Humpback whales, dolphins, turtles and a variety of amazing sea birds await you on a tour with Whale Watching Byron Bay, Byron Bay’s original and most unique whale watching experience.

Whale Watching Byron Bay is the only whale watching tour operator departing directly from Byron Bay . This allows us the quickest access to the Humpback whale migration on the Australian east coast.

Whale Watching Byron Bay has been operating since 2002 making us Byron Bay’s most experienced whale watching tour operator.  Over the years we have developed a tour that will provide you with a safe, informative and rewarding experience.

We conduct small personalised interpretive tours with a maximum of only 12 whale watchers per vessel.  Tours are conducted on purpose built RIB vessels designed for unobstructed viewing of the whales.  Each vessel is annually inspected by the NSW Maritime Authority to ensure it complies with all current safety regulations.

The unique geography of Byron Bay’s Cape Byron allows us to pin point each whale’s location, therefore Whale Watching Byron Bay’s tours often encounter whales within minutes of departing Byron Bay.

Dolphin Wildlife Tours offer fun and professional tours to the Cape Byron Marine Park. Our tours will introduce you to an amazing richness of marine life that inhabits the waters just off Cape Byron.

Here you will encounter the local Bottle-nose dolphin population as they cruise Byron Bay's sheltered waters. We also regularly encounter inquisitive Common dolphins checking out our vessel and its passengers.

From May until November you will witness the migration of the majestic humpback whales on their annual migration along the Australian east coast.

Many species of resident and migratory seabirds will have you scrambling for your binoculars.

Our tours will also give you an up close look at the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve where our underwater viewing devices will introduce you to the turtles, rays and the many species of fish that inhabit this Sanctuary Zone.

Join one of our daily tours to the Cape Byron Marine Park and witness the diverse marine life that abounds here.

Cape Byron Kayaks

Opposite 60 Lawson Street, Byron Bay NSW 2481

Experience all the fun and adventure of a Cape Byron Kayaks guided tour. Feel the exhilaration as you paddle with the dolphins, the turtles and the whales that frequent the enticing waters of Byron Bay. Whether you are a novice or experienced kayaker, your adventure will include paddling our gorgeous Marine Park, the waves, the wilderness and morning or afternoon tea with Tim Tams on a beautiful beach.

Take in some of the best sights the East Coast has to offer. Learn about local history, aboriginal history, the lighthouse, dolphins, whales and turtles. See the Most Easterly Point of the Australian mainland. This is all part of your Byron Bay sea kayak experience with Cape Byron Kayaks.

See and learn these things and more while you paddle in your sea kayak around the famous Byron Bay marine reserve.

May to November is the season to get up close and personal with whales as they migrate past the most easterly point of the Australian mainland Byron Bay.

Cape Byron Kayaks have been operating sea kayak tours for the past 17years and every year the anticipation of Whale Season is almost too much to bear as there is no other experience quite as unique and exhilarating as sea kayaking alongside a whale.

During their northern migration, most whales come within 3 km of the NSW coast. During the southern migration Humpback whales bring their calves into the calm waters surrounding Cape Byron to rest and feed. The calves are very inquisitive and playful, they often approach our sea kayak tours with the mother at their side passing just meters from our kayaks. Check out our video in the gallery... you have to see it to believe it!

The park also incorporates the former Wallaga Lake National Park. In May 2006, the park was handed back to its traditional Aboriginal owners in an historic agreement signed by New South Wales Government and the Yuin people. The mountain is an isolated volcanic core rising 797 metres above sea level and towering over the historical villages of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba. Viewed from the sea the mountain resembles a dromedary camel. The walking track starts from Tilba Tilba and the walk to the top and return is approximately 14 kilometres and takes about 5 hours. The rainforest is a spectacular sight with pinkwood and sassafras trees draped with long green moss and lichen. The forest floor is covered with fragile ground ferns and mosses.
